Lose weight if you’re overweight

If you’re overweight, it can be a major contributing factor towards developing diabetes. By losing weight, you lower your risk of developing the disease and also improve your chances of reversing it.

Losing weight isn’t easy but with strict dieting and exercise, it’s possible for anyone to reduce their overall body fat. Two things that really helped me lose weight were cutting out sugary snacks like chocolate bars and crisps and replacing them with fruit.

Reduce stress levels

There are many ways in which you can go about reducing your stress levels like meditation, exercise, yoga, or hot baths. All of these things will help you to lose weight as well as reduce your risk of developing diabetes.

How does my body produce insulin?

Insulin is produced by the pancreas, which is an organ that sits behind your stomach and intestines. It’s a small gland that’s actually part of the endocrine system where hormones are released into the bloodstream. This one, in particular, is responsible for producing insulin.

When levels of glucose rise above normal levels in the body, this triggers your pancreas to produce more insulin which attempts to lower blood sugar levels back down to normal.  This allows cells to take glucose from the bloodstream and use it as energy.
