They picked women who were 50 years old or older and who had urinary incontinence happening daily. These women hadn’t done yoga before, and they were willing to pause any other treatments they were using for their urinary incontinence.

The researchers split these women into two groups randomly. One group started doing yoga classes twice a week and practiced at home once a week. The other group did different exercises that focused on stretching and strengthening muscles, but not specifically yoga.

Alongside these exercises, all the women learned about other ways to manage urinary incontinence, like doing pelvic floor exercises and practicing bladder control.

After three months, the researchers checked how the women were doing. They found that both groups had fewer times where they couldn’t control their urine. However, the group that did yoga had a bigger improvement.

The women who did yoga had a 76% decrease in how often they had urinary incontinence and a 61% decrease in stress incontinence. Stress incontinence is when urine leaks during activities like exercising, sneezing, or coughing.
